One Woman’s Search for Meaningful Relationships

In a recent Instagram post, My 2021 Year in Review, I shared progress that I’d made in my business: my successes, milestones, fun facts, stats, client successes and big takeaways. After posting and then reading it, I realized I’d missed something.

What had I missed? I’d completely forgotten to share how I’d established, nurtured and built relationships.

Here’s the thing, relationships have been a struggle for me these last few years. The world’s state of affairs and its unhealthiness parallels how I’ve developed or maintained relationships. I am usually a social person who is attracted to many personalities. But Zoom gatherings, texting and phone calls don’t connect us with others like even a brief conversation over coffee at a cafe can.

It would have been a big win for me to have succeeded in building budding, meaningful loving relationships this year. Admittedly, on this front my wins were small.

Why? Simply put, I did not put in the time and energy.

Author, Editor and Host of Sisters Gathering to Heal Podcast, DeBora M. Ricks, posted on Facebook the following:

“When your relationships get tough, remember this: relationships aren’t meant to make us happy. They are meant to evolve and wake us up.”

As I read her post, it occurred to me that all my life I’ve yearned for relationships that would make me happy. I now know that relationships don’t make me happy - relationships make me grow so that I can be happy with myself and others who may happen to come into my life.

Although I’ve grown some relationships this year through virtual classes, group coaching and workshops, what I really want is more face-to-face interaction and connection with people.

So I’m claiming this as a 2022 win no matter the number. The win is the intention and the energy to move forward.

What about you, do you crave more human interaction and connection? If yes, how do you intend to create and cultivate them in 2022?

Be Well,

-Kathy
