Are You Flying Solo with CoCo?

It’s been over five weeks since CoCo (COVID-19) became a part of our daily lives. The unexpected, the unprecedented, the unknown continues to face us. How are you doing during this time? How are you right now?

Well, I’ll admit that I have felt a myriad of emotions, feelings and for two days during my first week of working remotely, I answered the door when fear knocked. The feelings flooded my spirit and I uncommonly felt . . .

  • loneliness

  • fear

I realized that I was alone in the space I’ve lived by myself and call home for over two years with no problem at all. I had no one in my family near me for miles away. I had no access to transportation that didn’t expose me to hard surfaces or possible carriers of CoCo.

Well, after I felt the feelings and got tired of feeling lonely and fearful for two days, I decided to choose how I wanted to feel. I chose the feelings of contentment, peace and gratitude because I was going to have to ride with CoCo like everybody else. I realized that I was flying solo and following the rules to get myself through this journey - safely and healthy.

Once I stopped, breathed and thought (there’s a helpful app similarly titled) about my circumstances, I realized that I was not alone. I had God, spiritually. I had connection to family and friends, virtually. I had my brain. While using my God given brain and common sense, I would be fine. Where was I gonna go anyway? Did I need to take transportation anywhere? The answers to those questions were - nowhere and no.

Are you flying solo while this pandemic is around us? Are you home with a house full of people and still feel alone, afraid and insecure? if so, genuinely and authentically feel the feelings you have. Take your time. But please know that you are not alone in any of this. Reach out to friends, family, even a neighbor from a distance.

There are local and even national resources to assist if you don’t have a network or support system in place to deal with any anxiety or depression that you are experiencing. The National Alliance on Mental Health at 800-950-NAMI is a start.
